Privacy policy
The short version: your family tree never leaves your computer. Fan Chart Studio is a web page that does all its work inside your browser. The only exception is when you order a printed chart: then the finished chart picture goes to the printer, and nothing else does.
Your family data
- GEDCOM files you open are read by your browser and are not uploaded to us or anyone else.
- Names you type, edits you make and your chart settings are saved in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) on your device, so your work is still there when you come back. You can clear it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
- Charts you download (PDF, PNG, SVG) are created on your device.
What we do receive
- Page requests. Like any website, our hosting provider receives standard request information (IP address, browser type, the page requested) to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
- Fonts and libraries are loaded from public content delivery networks (jsDelivr and Google Fonts), which receive standard request information when your browser fetches them. No family data is included in these requests.
- Anonymous usage counts (for example, how many people downloaded a PDF), if analytics is enabled. We use a cookie-free, privacy-friendly counter and never record names or file contents.
Print orders
If you order a printed chart, we need to send it to the printer. Only then does anything leave your computer:
- The finished chart (a PDF of exactly what you see) is uploaded to our secure storage and sent to our print partner, Prodigi, who prints, frames and ships it. Your GEDCOM file and the rest of your family tree are never uploaded.
- Your name, shipping address and email are collected by Stripe at checkout and passed to Prodigi so it can deliver your order. We keep an order record (item, city and order status) so you can track it.
- Chart files are deleted automatically within 90 days of ordering.
Purchases and license keys
Pro purchases are handled by our payment provider (Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy) and print orders by Stripe. Each processes your payment details and email address under its own privacy policy. We never see your card number. When you activate Pro, your browser sends your license key to the payment provider's license service to check it. The key is then stored in your browser.
Cookies
Fan Chart Studio doesn't set advertising or tracking cookies. Local storage is used only for the features described above.
Children
The site is suitable for family and school use and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
